From March 17 to 21, President Guan Yingjun led a delegation to Australia, visiting prestigious universities and research institutions, including the University of Melbourne, Western SydneyUniversity, and the University of New South Wales. The delegation also held discussions with Li Wei, Minister-Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Australia. In Canberra, the delegation met with Minister-Counselor LiWei, Dr. Li Fuxin,Principal of the Australian Standard Chinese School, Professor Huang Shuliang,recipient of the Order of Australia, and over 30 experts and scholars from institutions such as the Australian National University and Monash University. The discussions focused on Sino-Australian collaboration in medical and related fields, including talent cultivation, discipline development, academic exchanges,and healthcare improvement, leading to broad consensus.During the visit, the delegation successfully hosted the Shandong Second Medical University Talent Recruitment and Promotion Session in Australia, where the Shandong Second Medical University Overseas Talent Workstation(Australia) was officially inaugurated. President Guan Yingjun delivered a keynote speech titled Where Eucalyptus Trees Flourish, Medicine and Academia Thrive Together, detailing the university’s history, educational strengths, and future development blueprint. In his concluding remarks, Minister-Counselor Li Wei highly praised the university’s achievements in talent cultivation, teaching and education, scientific research, faculty excellence, and the achievements in fostering students. OverseasTalent Workstation in Australia In Sydney, the delegation visited Campbelltown Campus and Westmead Campus of Western Sydney University, Liverpool Hospital, and the Ingram Applied Medical Research Institute at the University of New South Wales. At Western Sydney University’s Campbelltown Campus, the delegation met with Professor Sara Lewis, Dean ofthe School of Health Sciences, and Professor Xiaoshu Zhu, Co-Director ofthe Chinese Medicine Centre and Associate Dean of the School of International cooperation. They toured the Teaching and Training LaboratoryCenter to observe its facilities and operations. At the Westmead Campus, Professor Dennis Chang, Head of the NICM Health Research Institute, National Institute of Complementary Medicine, provided a detailed overview of the institute’s development. The delegation also visited the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Medical Research and Translation, gaining insights into cutting-edge pharmaceutical R&D and translational medicine. Additionally, the delegation held discussions with faculty and researchers from both campuses, exchanging ideas on public health, rehabilitation therapy, pharmacy, international programaccreditation, and research commercialization. Both sides reached preliminary agreements on faculty and student exchanges, shared curriculum resources,joint postgraduate training programs, and collaborative research and teaching initiatives. At Liverpool Hospital, the delegation gained in-depth insights into the hospital’s management philosophy, healthcare professional development programs, and student internship arrangements. They visited the industry-leading Da Vinci Robotic Surgical Training and Operating Center. Both parties held discussions on clinical faculty training, joint postgraduate education, collaborative clinical research, medical resource sharing, and telemedicine cooperation. They reached an agreement on a training initiative for early-career clinical physicians and signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize the collaboration. Both parties held discussions on medical statistics, health economics, big data applications, and digital resource development, reaching collaborative agreements in: Joint postgraduate training programs,International curriculum development,Academic exchanges and Collaborative research initiatives. The meeting culminated in the inauguration ceremony of the Shandong Second Medical University Overseas Joint Graduate Training Base. The delegation visited the University of Melbourne and Established an Overseas Joint Graduate Training Base. This visit has significantly strengthened our university's international exchanges and cooperation with Australian higher education institutions and research organizations. It has laid a solid foundation for advancing the cultivation of high-level academic leaders,promoting cutting-edge scientific research, and enhancing the quality ofclinical medicine at our university. This marks a crucial step in accelerating the internationalization process of our institution and driving high-quality development. |
