Vice President Cheng Visits Universities in Cuba and Brazil

From Nov. 23th to 30th, 2024, a delegation led by Vice President Cheng Min visited University of Medical Sciences of Havana (UCMH), University of Havana, Universidade Brazil, and University of São Paulo (USP).

At UCMH in Cuba, the delegation held exchanges with President Marym Delacarida Lago Quiga and Vice President Mademili Farat Ramos.Then they visited School of Medicine, Affiliated Hospital, PharmacologyLaboratory, and Affiliated Hospital of Stomatology. Bothsides reached consensus on talent cultivation, teacher training, scientific research cooperation and academic exchanges, and signed to build a Confucius Institute for TCM. They held the signing ceremony of overseas talent workstation of SDSMU with UCMH in Cuba.

At University of Havana, the delegation had exchanges with Vice President Dionisio Zaldivar Silvaon talent cultivation, professional construction, curriculum sharing, joint hosting of international conferences, cultural exchanges and educational cooperation. Later, the delegation visited Confucius Institute atUniversity of Havana.

While visiting Universidade Brazil, the delegation discussed with Chairman of the Board Fernando Costa and President Barbara Izabela Costa student exchange, joint training, faculty training, scientific research cooperation and medical resources sharing, etc. and signed an agreement on joint training of international students. Afterwards, VicePresident Cheng delivered a speech on behalf of SDSMU in the activities to promote educational equity, lay the cornerstone of the student residence, and plant trees to practice global sustainable development, etc. at the FernandoPolis Campus. The delegation visited the Virtual Simulation Center for Clinical Skills, laboratories, libraries, classrooms, clinics, the Zoonotic Infectious DiseaseCenter, and a teaching hospital under construction. On the basis of the cooperation agreement signed previously, both sides promised the implementation of types of cooperation projects and the high-quality development of mutual medical education.

At Universityof São Paulo, the delegation had an in-depth exchange with Aluisio Augusto Cotrim Segurado, Provost of USP and Director of the Hospital of Infectious Diseases, and Rogelio Norfrega, Director of the Office of International Cooperation, on long and short-term student visits, faculty exchanges and international programs. Then they visited the Hospital of USP.

It is of great significance for thevisit to strengthen cooperation between SDSMU and universities in Cuba andBrazil and broaden international exchanges for teachers and students. Running schools in an open manner, SDSMU will explore new modes of international cooperation and expand international cooperation in academic, education andresearch.
