Vice President Lu Visits Swedish Universities

FromMay 20th to 24th, a delegation led by Vice President Lu Guohua visited ChineseEmbassy in Sweden, Uppsala University and Karolinska Institute. The delegation included directors from the International Office, Personnel Office, Affiliated Hospitals (Clinical Medical Schools), and School of Anesthesia.

AtChinese Embassy in Sweden, Counsellor for Education Huang Liqiong and Consul ofEducation and Culture Department Xu Yixin met with the delegation. Huang welcomed the delegation and expressed his gratitude for the school’s contribution to the Sino-Swiss cooperation in medical education. He introduced the development ofmedical education, faculty and student exchange programs between Swedish and Chinese universities as well as the relevant support policies, and said that hewould try his best to help build a platform for high-level cooperation and exchange between SDSMU and Swedish universities.

After expressing her gratitude to Chinese Embassy in Sweden and the Education and Culture Department for their consistent support to SDSMU, Lu introduced thepurpose of this trip to Sweden, reported SDSMU’s development, renaming, school-running characteristics, talent cultivation, international cooperation projects, and affiliated hospitals, etc. Lu hoped to better promote the exchange and cooperation between SDSMU and the Swedish universities.

At Uppsala University, Head of Clinical Research Center Department of Medical Sciences Prof. Bertio Lindal, Director of Education Development Office Departmentof Medicine and Pharmacy Dr. Joaquim Swazedan, and Prof. Li Jinping of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology met with the delegation. Prof. Bertio Lindal introduced Uppsala University and its Medical School. Areas of PBL and CBLteaching, international courses, student exchanges and teaching, and clinicalfaculty training programs have been in-depth discussed by both sides. Especially, cooperation in the student exchange program has been reached anagreement, and a ceremony was held on site to establish the Swedish OverseasTalent Workstation of SDSMU.

At Uppsala University, the delegation visited teaching facilities and research laboratories in Department of Medicine and Pharmacy; had in-depth discussions with Prof. Li Jinping’s team in Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology; listened to the legacy of Olof Rudbeck, the discoverer of theearliest lymphatic system while visiting the museum, the library and research laboratory buildings.

At Karolinska Institute, Chief ofCritical Medicine of College Hospital, Prof. Eddie Witzberg and Prof. CarlströmOlle Mattias from Department of Pharmacology met with the delegation. Prof. EddieWitzberg introduced their College Hospital, including the concept and mechanism, medical personnel training and faculty management models from basic, preclinical research to clinical translation. Visiting the hospital’s ICU and neurotrauma department, the delegation discussed the development oftelemedicine cooperation and online communication. At Department of Physiologyand Pharmacy, Vice president Lu awarded Prof. Carlström Olle Mattias Distinguished Professor and master’s tutor of SDSMU; Dean of the School of Anesthesiology, Zhang Rui signed an agreement with Prof. Carlström Olle Mattiason joint training of students, laboratory co-construction, scientific research cooperation and clinical translation.

At the job fair of KarolinskaInstitute, Lu introduced the high-quality development of SDSMU from the salary,platform, development and service; Director from Personnel Office gave alecture on SDSMU’s personnel policy; Director from Affiliated Hospital introduced the talent development policy of Affiliated Hospital; Director fromSchool of Anesthesia explained the development platforms and research directions. At the dinner party, the delegation had in-depth discussions with more than 20 overseas young scholars on talent development, which enhanced their understanding of SDSMU. A talent signing ceremony was also held on site.

It isof great significance for SDSMU to promote friendly and cooperative relationshipwith the top universities in Sweden in such fields as international exchange ofteachers, joint training of students, scientific research cooperation, medicalservices, etc. and enhance the international influence of SDSMU continuously.
